Sylvia Smith Printing Press

When Sylvia Smith was forced to leave Marble on 27 March 1912, her Marble City Times newspaper printing press was impounded by the town for safe keeping. The location is not mentioned in the accounts that I had read and became a “what happened” curiosity. This curiosity has been crossed off the list. While searching The Marble Booster for information about Henry Mertens, a 10 February 1917 issue shows it was placed in the basement of Kobey’s. Being there almost 5 years, Ike Kobey’s position was the town never paid storage rent so he would sell the equipment. At the early February 1917 storage sale, Kobey was the buyer.
